Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner,

You have recently made statements in both the BCC chambers and in the media that you believe a public/private partnership is needed for a rehabilitated Quarry.  You have also said that a rehabilitated Quarry site should be a major tourist attraction to make the most of the Olympic 2032 opportunity.

A public/private partnership to develop Mt Coot-Tha Quarry would mean some part of this site would become a fenced-off commercial operation, charging fees to reclaim that investment. This is entirely inappropriate for 26 Hectares within the Mt Coot-tha forest reserve.

As a Brisbane resident, I want a rehabilitated quarry to be kept in public hands and not made into a private/public partnership tourist attraction.

Mt Coot-Tha Forest is the largest natural area within the Brisbane City Council area. A rehabilitated Quarry should be returned to the reserve and the people of Brisbane, not developed for an Olympic-focused tourist attraction.

As the Quarry sits entirely within the Mt Coot-Tha Forest, it is vital that this is not compromised by handing over 26 hectares of the reserve to private development.

A rehabilitated Quarry should be a public, open-access space that enhances the Mt Coot-Tha natural landscape, supports the rich local ecosystem and compliments the Botanic Gardens.

Can you give your commitment that you will not allow private developers to take control of a rehabilitated Quarry and that it will be rehabilitated and returned to Brisbane residents as 100% freely accessible public space?
